Unescaped output

How to slash-unescape text

Paste your text into Your text, or press Load example. For example, Line one\nLine two\tTabbed \\"quoted\\" (with literal backslashes) becomes real newlines, tabs and quotes. The restored version appears next to it and updates as you type. Copy the result or download it as a .txt file. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing you paste is uploaded.

Examples

InputOutput
Line one\nLine two Line one Line two
Tab\there Tab here
Say \"hi\" Say "hi"

Limits and edge cases

  • Single left-to-right pass: each backslash pair is read once and never re-scanned.
  • Unknown escapes like backslash-q are preserved exactly as typed.
  • A trailing lone backslash with nothing after it is kept as-is.
  • Pairs with Slash-escape: unescaping escaped text restores the original.

Frequently asked questions

How do I unescape text?

Paste the escaped text into the input box and the restored version appears instantly in the result box. Copy it or download it as a .txt file.

Which escape sequences are restored?

Backslash-backslash becomes one backslash, backslash-n becomes a newline, backslash-t a tab, backslash-r a carriage return, and backslash-quote becomes the quote character.

What happens to unknown escapes like backslash-q?

They are left untouched. Only the six supported classes are restored, so anything else passes through exactly as typed.

What happens to a trailing backslash?

A lone backslash at the end with nothing after it has no sequence to complete, so it is kept as-is.

Can I unescape only some sequences?

Yes. Use the checkboxes to pick which classes to restore. Disabled classes stay escaped in the output.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. Unescaping runs in your browser with JavaScript and nothing is sent to a server. Inputs under 200 KB are kept in your browser's local storage so they are still there when you come back.
