Decoded text
How to convert binary to text
Paste your binary into Binary input, or press Load example. The decoded text
appears next to it and updates as you type. Copy the result or download it as a .txt file.
Everything runs in your browser, so nothing you paste is uploaded.
Examples
| Input | Output |
|---|---|
| 01001000 01101001 | Hi |
| 01001000 01101001 00100001 | Hi! |
| 1001000 1101001 | Hi |
Limits and edge cases
- 7-bit vs 8-bit: if the total bit count is a multiple of 8, 8-bit groups are used, otherwise 7-bit groups. Lengths divisible by both prefer 8-bit.
- Whitespace (spaces, newlines, tabs) is ignored, so spaced and continuous binary both work.
- Decoded bytes must be valid UTF-8 text; invalid sequences show an error instead of garbled output.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert binary to text?
Paste the binary into the input box and the decoded text appears instantly in the result box. Copy it or download it as a .txt file.
Does it accept binary with or without spaces?
Both. Groups can be separated by spaces, newlines or tabs, or run together with no separators at all. All whitespace is ignored before decoding.
How are 7-bit and 8-bit groups handled?
The group size is auto-detected from the total bit count: if it is a multiple of 8, 8-bit groups are used, otherwise 7-bit groups. A length divisible by both, like 56 bits, prefers 8-bit groups.
What if my binary has a typo?
Any character other than 0, 1 or whitespace shows an error, as does a bit count that is not a multiple of 7 or 8. Fix the highlighted issue and the result updates automatically.
Does it support emoji and accented characters?
Yes. Decoded bytes are interpreted as UTF-8, so multi-byte sequences like those for accented letters and emoji decode correctly when the bytes are valid.
Is my binary uploaded anywhere?
No. Decoding runs in your browser with JavaScript and nothing is sent to a server. Inputs under 200 KB are kept in your browser's local storage so they are still there when you come back.
