One word per line

How to convert spaces to newlines

Paste your text into Your text, or press Load example. Every word appears on its own line and the result updates as you type. Copy the result or download it as a .txt file. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing you paste is uploaded. Try this sample: one two three\tfour.

Examples

InputOutput
one two three one two three
one two three four one two three four
a b (collapse off) a b

Limits and edge cases

  • Existing line breaks are kept: only spaces and tabs become newlines, never the other way round.
  • Collapse runs on means several spaces or tabs in a row become one break with no empty lines; off means each space or tab becomes its own break, so double spaces create an empty line.
  • If neither Spaces nor Tabs is selected, the tool leaves your text unchanged.

Frequently asked questions

How do I put every word on its own line?

Paste your text into the input box and each word appears on its own line instantly. Copy the result or download it as a .txt file.

Are tabs converted too?

Yes by default. Both spaces and tabs become line breaks. Uncheck Tabs to leave tab characters untouched, or uncheck Spaces to split on tabs only.

What does collapse runs mean?

When on, several spaces or tabs in a row become a single line break and no empty lines appear. When off, every single space or tab becomes its own break, so double spaces create an empty line.

Are my existing line breaks kept?

Yes. Line breaks already in your text are preserved and carried into the output, so only spaces and tabs are converted.

What happens if I uncheck both Spaces and Tabs?

Nothing changes. With no characters selected to split on, the tool leaves your text exactly as it is.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. Conversion runs in your browser with JavaScript and nothing is sent to a server. Inputs under 200 KB are kept in your browser's local storage so they are still there when you come back.
