Metrics

| Unique words | Distinct words ignoring case; "The" and "the" count as one. |

| Characters (no spaces) | Code points after removing all whitespace. |
| Lines | Lines split on line breaks; a single trailing break adds no extra line. |
| Sentences | Segments ending in . ! ? or …; text with words but no terminator counts as one sentence. |

| Avg word length | Mean letters per word in code points, rounded to one decimal. |

Limits and edge cases
- Reading time assumes 200 words per minute and speaking time 130 words per minute, widely used average standards.
- Sentences are found with a simple terminator heuristic (. ! ? …), not full language parsing, so abbreviations may over-count.
- CJK text without spaces counts as few long words; character counts are more meaningful there. Counts are code-point aware so emoji count once.

What statistics are shown?
Words, unique words, characters with and without spaces, lines, sentences, paragraphs, average word and sentence lengths, reading and speaking time, and the top 5 most frequent words.
How is reading time estimated?
Reading time assumes 200 words per minute and speaking time assumes 130 words per minute, which are widely used average standards.
How are sentences counted?
Text is split on sentence terminators like . ! ? and …. Text without any terminator counts as one sentence if it contains words.
How are words counted?
Words are runs of letters and digits, including apostrophes inside words. Accented characters and other Unicode letters count as words.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. Analysis runs in your browser with JavaScript and nothing is sent to a server. Inputs under 200 KB are kept in your browser's local storage so they are still there when you come back.
