Decoded text

How to decode Base64

Paste your Base64 into Base64 input, or press Load example. The original text appears next to it and updates as you type. Copy the result or download it as a .txt file. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing you paste is uploaded.

Examples

aGVsbG8= hello

Limits and edge cases

  • Whitespace and line breaks are ignored, so wrapped or multi-line Base64 works.
  • Missing = padding is repaired automatically.
  • Both standard (+, /) and URL-safe (-, _) alphabets are accepted.
  • Decoded bytes must be strict UTF-8 text; binary data shows a clear error.

Frequently asked questions

How do I decode Base64 to text?

Paste the Base64 string into the input box and the decoded text appears instantly. Copy it or download it as a .txt file.

Does it accept URL-safe Base64?

Yes. Both the standard alphabet (+ and /) and the URL-safe alphabet (- and _) are accepted.

Can I paste Base64 with line breaks?

Yes. Whitespace, spaces, and line breaks are ignored, so multi-line or wrapped Base64 works fine.

What if the padding is missing?

Missing = padding is repaired automatically, so strings like aGVsbG8 still decode to hello.

Why do I get a not valid UTF-8 error?

The input is valid Base64 but the decoded bytes are not valid UTF-8 text, for example raw binary data. Only UTF-8 text can be shown.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. Decoding runs in your browser with JavaScript and nothing is sent to a server. Inputs under 200 KB are kept in your browser's local storage so they are still there when you come back.
