Limits and edge cases
- ROT13 rotates letters A-Z only; digits, punctuation and accented characters like é pass through untouched.
- ROT47 rotates printable ASCII from ! to ~, so letters, digits and punctuation all change.
- Caesar shift accepts 1 to 25; anything outside that range falls back to 3.
- ROT13 is obfuscation, not security — anyone can decode it instantly, so never use it for secrets.
Frequently asked questions
How do I encode text with ROT13?
Paste your text into the input box and the ROT13 version appears instantly. Copy it or download it as a .txt file.
How do I decode ROT13?
ROT13 is its own inverse, so run the encoded text through the tool again with the same mode to get the original back.
What is the difference between ROT13, ROT47 and ROT5?
ROT13 rotates letters A-Z by 13 places. ROT5 rotates digits 0-9 by 5 places. ROT47 rotates all printable ASCII characters from ! to ~ by 47 places, so numbers and punctuation change too.
How does the Caesar shift work?
Pick Caesar mode and a shift from 1 to 25. Each letter moves that many places through the alphabet, wrapping from Z back to A. ROT13 is the same as a Caesar shift of 13.
Is ROT13 encryption?
No. ROT13 is obfuscation, not security. Anyone can reverse it instantly, so never use it to protect passwords or sensitive data.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. Rotation runs in your browser with JavaScript and nothing is sent to a server. Inputs under 200 KB are kept in your browser's local storage so they are still there when you come back.
